Welcome to the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) website!

The ASEAN-ROK Forest Cooperation (AFoCo) was formalized in August 2012 as a follow up to the joint declaration of the ASEAN-ROK Commemorative Summit in June 2009 where the leaders acknowledged the establishment of AFoCO. AFoCO was proposed as a practical measure to share the experiences of Asian countries in the forestry sector and achieve partnership in the region. As the initial phase to establish this Organization, ASEAN and ROK agreed to begin cooperative activities under the AFoCo and to provide a platform for the establishment of AFoCO.

The AFoCO is soon to come into force embracing a new platform and broader regional scope with member countries from across Asia. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the dedication and hard work of all the parties to the Dialogue for the Establishment of AFoCO.

For the past few years, the AFoCo was able to build a legacy in the area of forestry particularly in the Southeast Asian region. Not only did we foster regional forest cooperation among members, we also promoted action-oriented and practical activities that addressed our member countries’ most dire needs.
The recently completed construction of the Regional Training and Education Center (RETC) is one of our proudest achievement that will provide a steady venue for training and education for AFoCO members and other partners in the sector.

I look forward to further building on the values of partnership, member-driven initiative, competency, transparency, equity, and sustainability through strategically implementing activities in the areas of restoration and reforestation, climate change adaptation, management of forest-related disasters, local livelihood improvement, and strengthening institutional capabilities under the guidance of the Assembly.

The Secretariat will continue to serve and assist the Assembly and member countries in achieving our goals of strengthening regional cooperation in the area of forestry. The staffs of the Secretariat and myself look forward to the years serving AFoCO with a vision of greener Asia.
